ArcelorMittal has announced a strategic collaboration with Amazon Web Services aimed at accelerating industrial automation across the steelmaker’s global operations. The partnership will combine AWS cloud infrastructure, artificial intelligence and edge technologies with ArcelorMittal’s industrial expertise to modernize production and improve the way its facilities collect and use operational data.
Under the agreement, the companies plan to develop and expand digital solutions for predictive equipment maintenance, computer-vision quality inspections and manufacturing-process optimization. Edge technology will allow information to be analyzed closer to machinery and production lines, helping plants respond more quickly to equipment problems, safety risks and changes in operating conditions.
The initiative is expected to make ArcelorMittal’s facilities safer, more reliable and more efficient while helping the company reduce downtime, control costs and improve product consistency. AWS will also support educational programs designed to strengthen cloud, digital and AI skills among ArcelorMittal employees, making workforce training an important part of the wider transformation.
The collaboration extends beyond factory automation. ArcelorMittal will also supply lower-carbon XCarb steel for certain Amazon facilities and AWS data centers, linking the technology partnership with both companies’ efforts to reduce the environmental impact of industrial operations and construction. Together, the agreement represents a major step toward bringing advanced digital technology into one of the world’s largest and most complex manufacturing industries.
